Catherine Smyka is a freelance writer and activist living in Grand Rapids, MI. She spends her days with the advertising team at FCB, where she and her fellow Culture & Inclusion leaders develop initiatives to create change within the agency culture and city culture. Catherine works towards building community in local and national spaces.
Catherine performs non-fiction stories with the national storytelling organization, The Moth; she is Seattle’s first Moth StorySLAM champion. She is the founder and editor of T/OUR Magazine, a literary and artistic dialogue about the LGBTQ community, and the co-founder of lowercase lit, an online quarterly dedicated to non-fiction. In 2011, Catherine had been a radio essayist with the Chicago NPR station, WBEZ.
